ABSTRACT

Covid-19 pandemi sürecinde, Ílahiyat fakültesi öğrencilerinin uzaktan eğitime ilişkin görüşleri ve karşılaştıkları problemleri ortaya koymayı amaçlayan bu çalışmada, karma yöntem benimsenmiş olup, yakınsayan paralel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırma evrenini 2020-2021 öğretim yılı Bahar döneminde Harran Üniversitesi Ílahiyat Fakültesi'nde okuyan yaklaşık 1700 öğrenci oluştururken, araştırma örneklemini ise bu grubu temsilen 447 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak anket kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin yaşadıkları yerin, kullandıkları cihazın, internet bağlantı türü ve imkânlarının, uzaktan eğitime bakışlarını olumlu veya olumsuz yönde etkilediği görülmüştür. Araştırma sonucunda genel olarak katılımcılar, uzaktan eğitimin;zamandan ve mekândan bağımsız olarak derslere katılabilmeye fırsat sunması, zamandan tasarruf sağlaması, ulaşım probleminin ortadan kalkması, ekonomik olması ve ders kayıtlarının tekrar izlenebilmesine imkân vermesi yönlerini olumlu görmektedir. Katılımcılar tarafından uzaktan eğitimin olumsuz görünen tarafları ise;internet bağlantısının kopması, elektrik kesintisi vb. sorunlar, derslerden yüz yüze eğitim kadar verim alınamaması, sınavların yüz yüze eğitime oranla daha zorlayıcı olması, öğrenci-hoca etkileşiminin sınırlı olması, uzaktan eğitimin sosyalleşme bakımından sınırlı olması, öğrenciyi pasif kılması, yeterince motive olamama olarak belirtilmiştir.Alternate : This study aims to reveal the views of theology students regarding distance education and the problems they encounter during the Covid-19 pandemic. The mixed method has been adopted and a convergent parallel design has been used. While the research population consists of approximately 1700 students studying at the Faculty of Theology of Harran University in the spring semester of the 2020-2021 academic year, the research sample consists of 447 students representing this group. Questionnaire was used as data collection tool. It has been observed that the kind of settlement where the participants live, the device that they use, the internet connection type and opportunities affect the views of participants on distance learning as positively or negatively. As a result of the research, the participants generally stated that distance education provides the opportunity to attend classes regardless of time and place, saves time, eliminates transportation problems, is economical and allows the course recordings to be watched again. The negative aspects of distance education by the participants are internet disconnection, power outage, etc., being inefficient of distance education as face-to-face education, being exams more challenging than face-to-face education, limited student-teacher interaction, limited socialization, making students passive, not being motivated enough.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: This research aimed to map the implementation of the assessment of Islamic Religious Education (commonly known as PAI) learning outcomes in the psychomotor domain during the COVID-19 period in Indonesia. Method: This is a qualitative research conducted through case studies with three data collection methods: observation, interviews, and documentation. Findings: The results of the study showed that the implementation of Islamic Religious Education learning during the COVID-19 period can be seen in three phases: in the first phase, the implementation and assessment of learning related to the psychomotor domain cannot be accommodated by Indonesian schools;the second phase was indicated by the implementation and assessment of online learning fully;and the third phase focused on the online-offline combination mode when online platforms such as Zoom, and WhatsApp were used and assessment of learning outcomes was dominated by performance tests and portfolios through video, audio, and other student products;while the off-line assessment mode focused on hands-on practice. Implications for Research and Practice: despite its limitations, this research provides lessons and insights especially for policymakers to anticipate similar events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, with learning programs and assessments that are more effective, adaptive, and easy to implement by teachers, especially in the psychomotor domain. Planned and measurable policies will reduce negative impacts on students, such as learning loss, which is happening at this time. © 2022 Ani Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Bu araştırma, Diyanet Íşleri Başkanlığı bünyesinde görev yapan din görevlilerinin Covid-19 (Koronavirüs) salgın sürecinde işitme engelli bireylere sunmuş oldukları din eğitimi ve uzaktan eğitim hakkındaki görüşleri ile teknolojik araç-gereçleri kullanma yeterliklerini ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma nicel araştırma yönteminin tercih edildiği betimsel bir çalışmadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak açık uçlu ve çoktan seçmeli soruları içeren anket kullanılmıştır. Anket, 2019-2020 öğretim yılı bahar yarıyılında işitme engellilere uzaktan din eğitimi veren din görevlileri evreninde kasti örnekleme yöntemiyle belirlenmiş 38 din görevlisine uygulanmıştır. Anket formlarından elde edilen verilerin istatistiksel analizi Google Forms ve Microsoft Excel programı ile yapılmıştır. Öğreticilerin farklı illerde yaşıyor olmaları ve Covid-19 salgını, uygulamanın uzaktan yapılmasını zorunlu kılmıştır. Araştırma bulgularından işitme engellilere sunulan din eğitiminin 8 yıldır sistemli bir şekilde devam ettiği;uzaktan eğitim konusunda öğreticilerin tecrübelerinin yeterli olmadığı;salgın öncesinde genç işitme engellilerin Kur'an kurslarına yeteri kadar katılım sağlamadığı;salgın sürecinde yetişkin işitme engellilerin iletişim eksikliği, aile desteği, teknolojik imkânsızlıklar, uzaktan eğitimde başarısız olunacağı ile ilgili önyargı ve ders saatlerindeki yetersizlikten dolayı uzaktan din eğitimine çok fazla ilgi göstermediği;ücretsiz olması ve kullanım kolaylığından dolayı whatsapp uygulamasının eğitimlerde en sık kullanılan uygulama olduğu;salgın döneminde uzaktan eğitim yoluyla verilen din eğitiminde yaşanan problemlerin sebepleri olarak uzaktan eğitim imkânları, materyal yetersizliği, ailelerin ve işitme engellilerin ilgisi olduğu vb. tespitler yapılmıştır.Alternate : This research aims to present, the viewpoint of the Qur'an course instructors and religious officials who work for Presidency of Religious Affairs, on religious education and distance learning and their competence in using technological tools and equipment during covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. The research is a descriptive study that prefer the quantitative method. In the research findings obtained through a survey contains both open ended and multiple-choice questions. The survey was applied to 38 religious officials that chosen by deliberate sampling method from the Presidency of Religious Affairs' instructors universe that were educating people with hearing impaired in the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. Statistical analysis of the datas obtained from survey were done via Google Forms and Microsoft Excel. Due to the facts that the instructors are living in different cities and Covid-19 pandemic made it obligatory to implement the research distance. The determination have been done according to the research findings are: the religious education offered to the hearing impaired has continued for 8 years in a systematic way, the experience of the instructors are insufficient about distance education, before the epidemic the youngs with hearing impaired didn't attend Qur'an courses sufficiently, during the epidemic the adults with hearing impaired didn't show much interest in distance learning due to the reasons;lack of communication, family support, technological impossibilities, prejudice about failure in distance education and inadequate course hours. (baglaclı bir cumleden sonra virgule devam etmek anlam kaymasına sebep olabilir diye cumleyi böldüm) Moreover, due to the whatsapp application's freeness and ease of use it was the most frequently used application and the reasons for the problems experienced in distance religous education during the pandemic are;distance education opportunities (imkanları demişsiniz ama sanki imkansızlıkları demek istemişsiniz, yani impossibilities), lack of materials and interest of both families and people with hearing impaired are the other determinations have been done by the research.

ABSTRACT

Tensions between spiritual development and school discipline academic goals at one Puerto Rican Protestant high school mirror tensions between leadership development and discipline at my own school. At the Protestant school where I conducted ethnographic research, faculty-student hierarchies were downplayed and students were given ample freedom of expression in worship, in the interest of encouraging them to have individual encounters with God. At the second site, I recount "auto-ethnographically" how the school's leadership-development mission is associated with rituals and relationships paralleling those in the first site. As part of this auto-ethnography, I also describe how students, through the student government which serves as a counterpart to worship activities at the Protestant school, successfully contested the administration's authority in a controversy over the dress code. I employ both cases to illustrate how liminality and communitas, concepts developed by the anthropologists Victor Turner and Edith Turner, explain the tensions described and serve to draw attention to similar moments and spaces in religious and secular schooling. The writings of John Taylor Gatto as well as Eileen de los Reyes and Patricia Gozemba's concept of "pockets of hope" further highlight this tension. Liminality and communitas also help identify much of what was lost in emergency remote teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. Research with these concepts could produce important insights into the possibilities and pitfalls of such educational endeavours, as well as into the interplay between structure and agency in schooling.

ABSTRACT

The use of social media as a communication medium is not limited. In the era of technological development with the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, social media is also used to access information about spiritual issues. This study aims to explore the use of social media as a religious learning solution for the millennial generation in the era of the spread of Covid-19. This study adopts a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method to the millennial generation's tendency to use social media. Data collection uses observation, interviews, and analysis studies of da'wah accounts on social media. The data analysis technique uses the theory of Miles and Huberman, namely collecting data, reducing, and presenting. Data validation uses data triangulation and data sources. This study shows that the millennial generation filters da'wah accounts on social media based on their understanding (manhaj). This research needs to be followed up by mapping the concept of da'wah through social media which is relevant for the millennial generation in Indonesia.

ABSTRACT

During the Covid-19 pandemic the construction of conspiracy theories was rapidly infused by patterns of antisemitic resentment, which reveals a link bet-ween global crises and stoking antisemitism worldwide. From a religious educa-tional perspective, this contribution describes how the problem can be tackled by providing literary texts within an interdisciplinary approach. As certain herme-neutics, which dissociate Christianity from Judaism by using stereotypical anta-gonists, are highly problematic, a discussion of the "Judas Novel" by Amos Oz offers valuable insights to the context. Even though the character of Judas embodies a multifaceted stereotype, the novel's storyline, narrative tone and point of view help to dismantle rigid patterns and break the bias.

ABSTRACT

This study is part of a doctoral research that seeks to relate teaching beliefs and socioemotional competencies of elementary school teachers. This is relevant given the absence of studies of this type in Peruvian contexts in religious education and the need for changes in the curricular systems produced by Covid-19. For this purpose, a comparative correlational study was carried out with the objective of identifying the types of existing beliefs and how sex, age and years of service have an impact on the configuration of the beliefs of religion teachers. A total of 303 teachers from Lima-Peru participated. The Teaching Beliefs Questionnaire (CCRED) was used to assess value, competence and pedagogical beliefs. The results indicate that value beliefs predominate among teachers, followed by pedagogical and competence beliefs. It was also found that age and years of service are predictor variables of the establishment of beliefs, as opposed to sex. It is considered that this work contributes to deepen in fundamental variables for ICT training and to improve educational practice in post-pandemic contexts. © 2023, University of Cienfuegos, Carlos Rafael Rodriguez. ABSTRACT

The authors taught students in an Executive Master's program in Jewish education how to recognize and manage Enduring Dilemmas, situations in which two prized Jewish values stand in tension with one another and cannot be enacted simultaneously. They explore how these educators draw on the leadership practice of Managing Enduring Dilemmas in their professional lives and highlight the power of this practice to bring a unique Jewish frame and semblance of order to complex situations and issues. They conclude by describing the process by which educators learn this practice and the implications for professional learning and leadership development.

ABSTRACT

Perceptions about remote theological education inevitably cluster around questions of embodiment, community, and unity. The letters of the apostle Paul have quite a bit to say about these themes. This essay examines Paul's treatment of distance in the formation and education of Christians, focused around the image of the "body of Christ" in 1 Corinthians and the "presence" of Paul's absence through his letter-writing. Reflecting on distance education with reference to Paul's Corinthian correspondence proves useful in developing a biblical and theological grammar for understanding remote formation, including an alternative to traditional theological anthropology. The 2020-2022 global pandemic has underscored the importance and urgency of developing such a reassessment of theological formation. Following the lessons learned from Paul as distance educator, the essay concludes with a series of questions for institutions to ask themselves as they seek a way forward in the pandemic era.

ABSTRACT

This study examined the development of student mental health service provision by independent Christian schools in Ontario, Canada. Key informant interviews led to the development of three major themes-(i) Culture of Caring: A C hristian principle in action, (ii) Equifinality: multiple pathways to the same destination, and (iii) Normalizing Counselling: the creation of a positive feedback loop that was divided into five integrated stages. Three counselling models emerged to address students' psychosocial and emotional challenges. These programs were viewed as an extension of Christian ministry, holistically providing care within the school system not originally structured to meet such needs.

ABSTRACT

In the midst of a pandemic, an ongoing global climate emergency, violent white supremacy, economic inequality, and fraying democratic institutions, the work of theologians and religious studies scholars offers a much-needed illumination by attending both to the religious roots of these disfunctions and to religious sources of alternative possibilities. This article argues especially for the importance of religion in providing hope, inspiring unity, warning of perennial human temptations, and encouraging the practices of introspection essential to independent thought. The story of Fr. Félix Varela, Cuban scholar, patriot, and pastor to immigrant Irish in nineteenth-century New York, provides an example of someone whose deep religious faith enabled him to resist common polarizations and to illuminate his time by envisioning and working for a world more just and humane than that imagined by the official Catholicism (or by most of society) in his day.

ABSTRACT

In the middle of Mar 2020, an undergraduate English class from the University of Dayton visited the Marian Library for hands-on learning with primary source materials related to miraculous cures at the Lourdes shrine in France. Students in the upper-level seminar course that focused on narrative, rhetoric, and medicine prepared for the visit by reading an article about the baths at Lourdes, where thousands of pilgrims have traveled annually since the 1870s for a chance to be cured by the holy water from a spring. As students examined photographs, copies of case files, and historical narrative accounts, several of them discussed what might happen at a site like Lourdes with the emerging COVID-19 pandemic that had been making headlines in other parts of the world. That evening, online news outlets reported that for the first time in its history, the Lourdes shrine would temporarily close to the public, and that the healing baths had already been closed since the end of February. This was just one of the many ways that the Catholic faith, practices, and acts of devotion would adapt and change in the coming months due to COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed people's social behavior in various fields, especially education and religion. Religious learning activities through social media have increased along with the shift from offline to online learning. Restrictions on physical activity encourage increased online activity. Religious education and teaching began to shift from traditional face-to-face to online teaching. Educational institutions no longer monopolize Islamic religious education. This study examines the shift in religious education authority due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study has analyzed videos of popular religious studies broadcast on social media, YouTube, and Facebook using a qualitative content analysis method. This study finds that the shift in the authority of religious education can be seen in three aspects: popularity, themes, and learning models. The findings of this study indicate the weakness of traditional educational paradigms and authorities and the opening of new spaces for religious learning. This study complements previous work on Islamic religious education authorities.

ABSTRACT

To remain competitive in the educational market, Catholic elementary schools are exploring alternatives, such as STEM education, to incorporate into their learning environments. In this qualitative phenomenological study, 16 interviews were conducted in Catholic elementary schools to understand their perspectives on developing and implementing a STEM program. The experiences of a pastor, three principals, two STEM coordinators, six teachers, and four community stakeholders were analyzed. Eight themes emerged: (a) shared leadership, (b) professional development, (c) curriculum and instruction, (d) STEM program evaluation, (e) STEM culture, (f) enhanced interest in innovation, (g) strategic planning, and (h) the COVID effect. Recommendations focus on developing a STEM committee/assigning a STEM coordinator, designing professional development centered on STEM, establishing program evaluation and stakeholders' feedback, engaging in STEM strategic planning, and creating a STEM culture. The findings could help Catholic school leaders to develop and implement a STEM program. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)

ABSTRACT

It is clear that the current global health problems have made distance education a necessity rather than a choice. It is also known that this obligation contains many problems in terms of application infrastructure and hardware. In this context the aim of our study is to examine student opinions related to the distance education model, which is frequently used in Turkey and all over the world in the 2020-2021 academic year because of the COVID-19 epidemic. The data of the study were collected from the students who took distance education courses in the undergraduate education of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Faculty of Theology during the spring semester. The data used in the research were collected by the researchers with the previously prepared "Views of Distance Education Students on Distance Education" scale. According to the results, it was concluded that the vast majority (about 79.7%) of the students of the faculty of theology did not evaluate the distance education system that Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University started to implement in a short time as efficient. The research was conducted with a mixed research model. In other words, interviews were conducted with the students about data collection and a questionnaire was applied to the students. Since all the data are collected at the same time, the design of the research is considered as the "combination design" in mixed method research designs. As a result of these experiences, it is aimed that the data obtained about the opinions of the participants will shed light and guide the distance education applications that will be carried out in the future processes. ABSTRACT

Pandemi süreciyle birlikte hızlı ve ani şekilde uygulanmaya başlayan uzaktan eğitime dair değerlendirmenin yapılabilmesinde eğitim sisteminin sac ayaklarından biri olan öğreticinin rolü ve tutumu ehemmiyet arz etmektedir. Bu amaçla çalışmada yüksek din öğretiminde uzaktan eğitimin etkileri, öğretim elemanlarının perspektifinden mercek altına alınmıştır. Ílâhiyat/Íslami ilimler fakültesinde görev yapan 134 öğretim elemanı araştırmaya katılmıştır. Araştırmada nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden betimsel nitelikli tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın verileri demografik bilgiler yanında 5’li Likert tarzında 40 maddeden oluşan anket formu ile toplanmıştır. SPSS 26 programıyla analizler betimsel istatistik yöntemlerinden frekans (f), yüzde (%) ve ortalama (x̄) hesaplamaları ile yapılmıştır. Teknoloji kullanımı ve uzaktan eğitim destek biriminin rolü, derslere hazırlık ve motivasyon, öğretim süreci ve yönteme dair genel değerlendirme boyutlarındaki bulgular tablolarla sunulmuş ve yorumlanmıştır. Sonuçta ilk etaptaki kaygı ve endişenin öğretim elemanlarında azaldığı, kendilerini uzaktan eğitim yöntemine yeterince adapte edebildikleri ancak derslerden alınan verim, öğrencilerin derse katılım oranları ve kullanılan ölçme-değerlendirme yöntemlerinden memnun olmadıkları ortaya çıkmıştır. Özellikle uygulamalı derslerin kazanımlarına ulaşmasında oldukça yetersiz bulunan uzaktan eğitimin ilâhiyat/Íslami ilimler fakülte programına entegrasyonu tam olarak sağlanamamıştır. Geleneksel eğitimi destekleyici pozisyonda değerlendirilen uzaktan eğitime yönelik negatif sayılabilecek olumsuz tutumun ise yapılacak iyileştirme çalışmaları ile değişebileceği söylenebilir.Alternate : The role and attitude of the faculty members, who is one of the pillars of the education system, is important in making the evaluation of distance education, which began to be implemented quickly and suddenly with the pandemic process. For this purpose, the effects of the use of distance education in higher religious education were examined from the perspective of the faculty members. 134 faculty members working in faculty of theology/Islamic sciences participated in the research. In the research, the descriptive survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used. The data of the study was collected with a survey form consisting of 40 items in the five-point Likert type as well as demographic information. The analysis were made with SPSS 26 program using frequency (f), percentage (%) and mean (x̄) calculations from descriptive statistical methods. The findings in the dimensions of technology use and the role of the distance education support unit, preparation for lessons and motivation, teaching process and general evaluation of the method are presented in tables and interpreted. As a result, it was revealed that the anxiety and worry in the first stage decreased in the faculty members, they could adapt themselves to the distance education method sufficiently, but they were not satisfied with the efficiency of the courses, the attendance rates of the students, the assessment and evaluation methods used. The integration of distance education, which was found to be quite inadequate especially in achievements of applied courses, could not be fully achieved in the theology/Islamic sciences faculty programme. It can be said that the negative attitude towards distance education, which is evaluated as in the position of supporting traditional education, may change with the improvement works to be carried out.

ABSTRACT

During the Covid-19 epidemic, distance learning systems gained widespread acceptance as a viable alternative to traditional educational services. Over ten million madrasah-based students participated in the Learning From Home (BDR) program with the bare minimum requirements for the implementation of inclusive religious education through the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia’s circular No. 4 of 2020 and the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia. This exhaustive literature analysis dives into the philosophical basis of distance education. It provides context and reason for a religious education based on madrasas. This study examines remote learning implementation at madrasah institutions from a policy and practical standpoint and makes recommendations for appropriate programs. The findings of this study contribute to the creation of an inclusive and responsive road map for religious education in Indonesia. The subsequent researcher may focus exclusively on program development. © 2022

ABSTRACT

Alternate : Turkey and many countries, the school has closed, or partially or completely due to covid 19 pandemic. Schools remained closed until a certain time in Turkey. Afterwards, its opening has been postponed until certain dates. In the second half of 2019-2020 and in the first and second half of 2020-2021, students were mostly deprived of face-to-face education. This study, which aims to describe the problems experienced by RE teachers in the learning-teaching process during the epidemic period, was designed according to a case study, one of the qualitative research methods. The study group consists of 8 RE teachers, four of them male and four female. The data collection tool is a semi-structured interview form. The data were subjected to content analysis, and NVIVO 12 program was used. RE teachers experienced problems regarding technique, absenteeism, pre-lesson preparation, learning environment, teaching methods, motivation, communication, time and measurement-evaluation. Although these negative situations have occurred, it can be said that teachers are willing to use the gains in distance education with normalization and aim to take learning out of the classroom in this way. It can be suggested to researchers to study the concepts of classroom privacy and digital world ethics within the framework of education. Improving the technology use competencies of RE teachers can also be suggested to the relevant institutions.

ABSTRACT

On 3 October 2020 Pope Francis issued his third encyclical, Fratelli Tutti. Signed in the symbolic location of Assisi, home of St Francis, the encyclical represented the pope's response to the fears and anxieties wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the burning injustices of racism, global inequality and climate change. The encyclical explicitly invoked human rights, criticising the ways in which, ‘in practice, human rights are not equal for all’. As nations and societies succumb to ‘disenchantment and disappointment’, ‘the temptation to build a culture of walls’ to keep out the ‘other’ grows ever greater. The antidote, Francis insisted, is a ‘culture of encounter’ in which it is again possible to ‘rediscover the needs of the brothers and sisters who orbit around us’. Priority, too, must be given to ‘the dignity of the poor’ and ‘respect for the natural environment,’ rather than the privileges of the affluent to continue to amass wealth at all costs. Only then – by aligning human rights with the global common good – can rights become truly universal.
